Senior Center Programs

The Orange County Department on Aging's two senior centers offer a variety of programs including classes, lunches, trips, and much more. Visit us to relax, socialize, and immerse yourself in wellness, creativity, intellectual stimulation, volunteerism, and community.

"Membership" to our senior centers is free, just complete the Senior Centers Registration Form and return it to either of our senior centers to get started. Some programs are fee-based and priority is given to people at least 55 years of age. Browse this page or check out the Senior Times to learn more.

Both Senior Centers serve up great food in a welcoming atmosphere and good company.

Come and join us!

  • Lunch Program Registration is required to participate in the lunch program
    • Download, complete, and return the Lunch Program Registration to the front desk at the senior center where you prefer to have lunch
  • Reservations are not required
  • Lunches are served on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Tickets are distributed as people check in between 11:00 am and 12:15 pm
  • Check in at the registration desk located near the kitchen at each Senior Center
  • Anyone under the age of 60 can purchase the meal for $6.00
  • Persons aged 60+ are urged to give a contribution towards the meal cost

The Orange County Senior Games is part of the National Senior Games, a year-round health promotion program for adults ages 55+. 2015 Senior Games "Events at a Glance"

Each spring, thousands of North Carolinians compete at local events. Winners of local events move on to compete at the state-level and those winners then go on to compete nationally. For more information about NC games, visit

National Senior Health and Fitness Day Celebration:

Every year, on the last Wednesday in May, the Department on Aging hosts activities in honor of National Senior Health and Fitness Day. Check out the summer edition of the Senior Times for more information.

Both Central Orange Senior Center and Seymour Center offer a variety of support groups, from Alcoholics Anonymous to Caregivers Support, and other interest groups like Book Clubs and Veterans Roundtables.

New and returning members are always welcome. A full list of support and interest groups along with meeting times can be found in the Senior Times.

1. Download and complete the first questions on both sides of the page (date survey was taken, initials and date of birth and center location-this is important data for accurate results.

2. After the survey is completed, drop it in the survey box at the front desk.

3. Participants completing and submitting a paper copy of the 2014 Senior Center Survey will be given a ticket to enter their name in the drawing for a special prize.  Participants can only enter this drawing once in 6 months. Survey icon with clipboard & checkmark.

1. If a course has a beginning and ending date then the End of Course Evaluations will be administered on the next to last or last day of the program.

*Instructors will be given immediate feedback from the End of Course Evaluations.

In Praise of Age is a weekly award-winning television production dedicated to informing and entertaining older adults on issues of aging. All shows are sponsored by the Orange County Department on Aging, UNC Health Care, Carol Woods Retirement Community, Carolina Meadows Retirement Community of Chapel Hill, and the Friends of both the Seymour Center and the Central Orange Senior Center.

The half-hour program airs Saturdays at 7:30 pm on Time Warner Cable TV:

  • Channel 8 in Chapel Hill
  • Channel 4 in Carrboro
  • Channel 18 in the Durham area


The program is replayed on Mondays at 10:30 am at both senior centers or on Tuesday if Monday is a holiday.
