Health and Wellness is a division of the Department on Aging that offers an array of services, ranging from massages to free blood pressure screenings. We also offer many fitness classes like yoga, aerobics, tai chi, and much more.

Senior Games Logo 2014 Orange County Senior Games

The Orange County Senior Games is part of the National Senior Games, a year-round health promotion program for adults ages 55+.  For the 2014 Orange County Senior Games results and to find out how you can participate next year call Dana Hughes, Orange County Senior Games Coordinator, at 919-918-7372.

Each spring, thousands of North Carolinians compete at local events.  Winners of local events move on to compete at the state-level and those winners then go on to compete nationally. For more information about NC games, visit http://ncseniorgames.org/.

National Senior Health and Fitness Day Celebration: Every year, on the last Wednesday in May, the Department on Aging hosts activities in honor of National Senior Health and Fitness Day. Check out the summer edition of the Senior Times for more information.

CHAPEL HILL SENIOR STRIDERS

 

Senior Striders is an indoor walking program at the University Mall in Chapel Hill for older adults, ages 55+.

University Mall is open for walkers every Monday – Friday at 7:30 am. Walking can be done on an individual basis or in groups.

On the 3rd Tuesday of every month we meet to walk as a group, eat breakfast, and enjoy an informational lecture on various health topics.

 

8:00 am: Warm-Up Exercises at the Mall Center Court

8:20 am: Breakfast served in The Weathervane at Southern Season

8:45 am: Educational Session. Check the Senior Times for upcoming lectures.

Walmart is open for walkers every Monday – Friday at 8:00 am. Walking can be done on an individual basis or in groups.

On the 3rd Thursday of every month we meet to walk as a group, eat breakfast, and enjoy an informational lecture on various health topics.
