Our Mission

Our mission is to provide the citizens of Orange County with fair, efficient, convenient, and accurate elections within the guidelines of State and Federal Election Laws.

In addition to preparing for and conducting all elections within Orange County, the Orange County Board of Elections is responsible for processing and maintaining all Orange County voter registration records.

Composition of the Board of Elections -
The Board is appointed by the North Carolina State Board of Elections and members serve terms of two years beginning the Tuesday following the third Monday in July of odd numbered years*. No more than two members of the County Board shall belong to the same political party. Chair and Co-Chair shall be of different political parties. In 2018 Chair shall be a Republican and Co-Chair shall be a Democrat. At each yearly Board re-organizational meeting the Chair and Co-Chair appointments shall switch to the opposite party affiliation from the previous appointment.
*Litigation in Cooper vs Berger & Moore delayed the current county board appointments until 2018. In 2019, county boards of election shall be appointed by the State Board on the last Tuesday in June and every two years thereafter.

The Board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. with some exceptions. Board meetings are open to the public and held in the Board of Elections Conference Room. Please contact the Board of Elections office to confirm monthly Board meeting schedule.

You may email the Director of the Orange County Board of Elections for questions regarding monthly Board meetings or to ask to be placed on the agenda.
