Environment and Resource Conservation Division

ERCD's mission is to coordinate County efforts toward  environmental protection and resource conservation - including:

  • Natural Resources (air/climate, land and water),

  • Cultural Resources (farmland preservation, cultural and archaeological preservation, parks and open space design), and

  • Administration of the County’s Lands Legacy Program.

Specific activities to accomplish these goals include the following objectives and programs:

  • Lands Legacy Program (natural and cultural resource conservation and parkland)
  • Natural areas, prime forests and wildlife habitat
  • Stewardship and design of future park land and open spaces
  • Water resources studies and projects
  • Energy conservation and air quality
  • Farmland Preservation
  • Historic Preservation
  • Comprehensive Resource Inventory/Database (GIS)
  • Staff support to Boards and Commissions
  • Natural and cultural resource elements of the Comprehensive Plan

The Orange Soil & Water Conservation District is now affiliated with ERCD.
