Kindle Collection

The Orange County Main Library loans Kindles loaded with fiction and nonfiction bestsellers and other popular titles – you can find the current list by searching for Kindle in the library’s online catalog.

Library Kindles will be available to Orange County residents age 18 and over who have a current library card in good standing. To check out a Kindle, visit the Information Desk on the second floor of the Main Library and be sure to bring your library card and current photo ID. How can I check out a Kindle?

To check out a Kindle, visit the Information Desk on the second floor of the Main Library and be sure to bring your library card and current photo ID. You will be asked to sign a User Agreement before checking out, so please allow 30 minutes to ask some questions and complete the check-out process.

How long can I keep the Kindle?

Kindles will check out for 3 weeks at a time, just like any other book in the library.

Can I place a hold request on a Kindle?

Yes. You can request a Kindle just as you would any other library materials.

Can I download ebooks to the Kindle?

No. You may not add or remove any items from the Kindle, or change any settings while you have it. If you would like to purchase an ebook for the Library’s Kindles, please speak with a staff member at the Information desk, or call 919-245-2537.

Are there late fees?

Yes. There is a late fee of $1.00 per day if you do not return the Kindle to the library by the due date.

Can I return the Kindle in the bookdrop?

No. Because a Kindle is fragile, they cannot be returned in the bookdrop. If a Kindle is found returned in the book drop, the user will be charged a $25 fine.

Where do I return the Kindle?

Kindles must be returned to a staff member at the Information Desk located on the 2nd floor at the Main Library. All components of the Kindle must be present upon return for the library to consider the item checked in – this includes the Kindle, its cover, the charging cord, adapter and carrying case.  Kindles must be returned at least 30 minutes before the library closes so that staff will have sufficient time to ensure that the returned item is complete and in working order.

What if the Kindle is lost/damaged/stolen while I have it checked out?

Before you can check out a Kindle, you will be asked to fill out a User Agreement, and by signing you accept full financial responsibility for the Kindle and agree to pay all costs associated with damage to or theft/loss of the Kindle and/or the Kindle accessories while checked out to you. The maximum replacement cost for all components, including the Kindle, cover, case, and charger, is $150.
