Get a Library Card
How do I get a Library Card?
Any resident of Orange, Caswell, and Person Counties is eligible to register for a free library card. Non-resident Orange County property owners are also eligible for free cards.
To get a library card, you need to fill out a brief registration form, present a photo ID and provide verification of your Orange County address at one of our library locations. Children (0-15 years) residing in Caswell, Person and Orange Counties may have their own cards provided that proof of residency is established. For more information, see our Circulation Policy.
Using Your Card
You can use your library card to:
- Check out books, CDs, audio books, movies, magazines and other materials.
- Use computers at the library.
- Renew materials and check your account online.
- Use databases, download e-books, and access videos from home.
In addition, your Orange County library card is honored at the Caswell County Public Library and Person County Public Library.
Due to its joint-use location, the Carrboro Branch utilizes a catalog and circulation system that is separate from other Orange County Public Library locations. Cards issued at other library locations can be activated for use at the Carrboro Branch Library.
What if I lose my card?
You can obtain a replacement for a lost library card by paying a $2.00 replacement fee.
What if I am not an Orange County resident?
If you are not a resident of Orange County, you may obtain a library card with full privileges for an annual fee of $25.
