Imagine Your Southern Branch Library

Orange County is currently evaluating space in the 300 East Main development in downtown Carrboro to locate a Southern Branch Library in 2017.

This new library would replace the Carrboro Branch Library, in McDougle Middle School, and the Cybrary, in the Carrboro Century Center.

Community engagement meetings were held on March 25 and April 12 in Carrboro to gather public input on the proposed library’s services, activities, and possible site.

Thank you to everyone who came to these well-attended meetings! The conversations were energetic and visioning activities fun. Your participation in this dialogue is critical to the progress of this project.

It’s not too late to share your thoughts

Though the community engagement meetings are complete, there’s still time to weigh in on the proposed Southern Branch Library.

If you weren’t able to attend the in-person meetings, please take the Southern Branch Library survey now through April 28. Paper copies of the survey are also available at the Carrboro Branch Library and Cybrary.

Your comments can also be shared on the Southern Branch Library Facebook page This page is maintained by the Friends of the Southern Branch Library.

What’s next?

Feedback collected from the community engagement meetings, survey and Facebook page through April 28 will be considered as the library team and its consultants put together a report for the Board of Orange County Commissioners. This report will be presented at the May 13 BOCC work session at 7 p.m. in the Southern Human Services Center.

The commissioners will offer feedback at that time regarding the report’s findings. They may then decide to hold a vote regarding the Southern Branch Library location at their regular meeting on June 3.
