Orange County is currently evaluating space in the 300 East Main Street development in downtown Carrboro to locate a Southern Branch Library in 2017.
This new library would replace the Carrboro Branch Library, in McDougle Middle School, and the Cybrary, in the Carrboro Century Center.
Orange County conducted community engagement meetings and a survey in March and April 2014 to gather public input on the proposed library's services, activities, and possible site.
From this input, the county's library consultants put together a report for the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC.) The report was presented at the May 13 BOCC work session. The report made recommendations regarding services, programs and spaces, as well as a square footage range for the proposed library:
