Orange County offices to remain closed through Sunday, Sept. 16

ORANGE COUNTY (Sept. 14, 2018) -- Due to the potential for impacts from Hurricane Florence, Orange County Government will remain closed through Sunday, Sept. 16.

Because the storm is moving so slowly, high winds and torrential rain remain a threat to the county through Saturday night.

The county urges residents to remain off the roads as the threat of high winds and significant rain could present a danger to the public. Several trees have been uprooted, and sporadic power outages have been reported by Duke Energy Progress and Piedmont Electric Membership Cooperation.

Residents who live in flood-prone areas are urged to seek shelter elsewhere. The county is operating two shelters for people displaced by the Hurricane. The shelters are located at:
  • Smith Middle School (9201 Seawell School Rd, Chapel Hill)
  • CW Stanford Middle School (308 Orange High School Rd, Hillsborough)
