Information About Possible School Merger

This website contains information, compiled by Orange County Local Government staff, related to the possible merger of the Orange County Schools and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. If you would like to comment on the possible merger, click here possiblemerger@co.orange.nc.us. Your e-mail comments will be directed to the Assistant County Manager and the County Budget Director and be shared with all members of the Board of County Commissioners.  All submitted comments are public record. The Orange County Board of Commissioners will hold a Work Session, on Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at 7:30 pm at the Southern Human Services Center, Homestead Road, Chapel Hill to discuss the potential impacts of a possible school merger between the Orange County Schools and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools.

This is a work session and at work sessions, the Commissioners have an opportunity to discuss issues among themselves and staff (when called upon).

The Commissioners appreciate the public’s attendance but also would like to remind everyone that there is no public comment at work sessions.

The Southern Human Services Center meeting room area will have a capacity of 75 for this meeting and we will be showing this meeting on a TV monitor in the lobby area (for overflow purposes), which has a capacity of 60.

This work session will also be taped for later broadcast on “The People’s Channel.”  Current scheduling includes airing on November 12, 2003 at 8:00 pm and on November 13, 2003 at 8:00 am and 2:00 pm.  Schedules can be confirmed at www.thepeopleschannel.org.

Again, for those who attend, you are asked to adhere to the Public Charge that is applicable to all meetings:

PUBLIC CHARGE

The Board of Commissioners pledges to the citizens of Orange County its respect. The Board asks its citizens to conduct themselves in a respectful, courteous manner, both with the Board and with fellow citizens.  At any time should any member of the Board or any citizen fail to observe this public charge, the Chair will ask the offending person to leave the meeting until that individual regains personal control.  Should decorum fail to be restored, the Chair will recess the meeting until such time that a genuine commitment to this public charge is observed.
