Welcome to the Orange County Sheriff's Office web site.
Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass

I am proud to welcome you to the Official Website of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.  This Office has launched a publicly accessible web site with every expectation that it will afford you greater access to the services we provide.  This website has been constructed with you in mind. It tells you who we are, and what we do to serve and protect you as a citizen of Orange County.  The Office of Sheriff is an ancient and honorable public office. From its institution in medieval England, to its incorporation in the North Carolina Constitution in 1776, and through the present day, the person holding the Office has held it in public trust. Each county has a Sheriff elected every four years.  I was first elected as your Sheriff in 1982, and continue to serve you in that capacity today.  The Sheriff’s Office is made up of deputies, detention officers, civilians and myself.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is a full service law enforcement agency charged with enforcing the law, investigating crimes, apprehending criminals, providing secure custody and control of persons placed in our detention facility, maintaining security in our courts, and serving official documents from the courts.

I am extremely proud of our record of service and commitment to the citizens of Orange County.  Our agency’s role has changed tremendously over the past 19 years, moving from a reactive office to one whose policies encourage proactive enforcement and community policing.  Today, we are community oriented with our goal to be present where people are, rather than reacting to a call about a crime after it has already occurred.

Our aggressive visible patrol, assigning deputies to areas where crimes have been reported and to areas where crimes are likely to occur, has been most beneficial in our ability to maintain a low property crime rate in Orange County.  Community Watch is one of our community-oriented programs which promotes active citizen involvement.  There are currently more than 150 Community Watch groups in our county.  With Community Watch, several other programs have been created to involve specific members of the community. These include Church Watch, D.A.R.E., S.A.L.T (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together), and C.A.R.E.  More information on these programs can be found by visiting the Sheriff's page on Crime Prevention.

I encourage each of you to browse freely through our Website and discover the information contained within it. I am certain you will find it interesting, beneficial and valuable. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about the site, you may email them to:
