The Sheriff's Office welcomes information from Citizens or individuals which can assist us in solving cases or issues. Investigators will be assigned to follow up on any information provided. Please call the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Cpl. Chan McDade, at 245-2900 or 942-6300, during regular office hours, 8 AM until 5PM, every weekday.

HILLSBOROUGH AREA:

****vandalism or attempted break in reported 04/11/12, 7:53 pm, 6117 NC 86 S. Lockharts traiding Post

The business owner  advised that sometime between 7:00 pm on 04-10-2012 and this morning at 6:30 am, someone threw a brick through a window. The window is on the left side of the business looking from NC 86 south. That particular area of the business was concealed due to a large U-Haul truck that was parked there earlier doing that day. Not sure if the suspects was trying to break in or not.

1. Everyone's entitled to a free credit report from each credit bureau once a year. Most folks get them all at one time, but if you're good about setting reminders on a calendar, get one free report every 4 months to stay on top of your accounts and credit rating.

2. North Carolinians can "freeze" their credit. This prevents anyone from opening an account in your name, but it has to be renewed every 90 days (I think) and you have to remember you've done it if you go to apply for any kind of loan, because it will slow down the loan approval process. However, if you know that your identity information is at risk, it can be a good proactive step.
