Ride the Bus
Orange County Public Transportation is a transit organization committed to promoting a healthful quality of life for all residents of Orange County, N.C. Orange Bus strives to provide a comprehensive continuum of locally-accessible, community-based transportation services. As a primary transportation resource for the county, Orange Bus has the responsibility to serve residents with transportation needs. Orange Bus is dedicated to continuously improving the quality and economic value of our services.
Routes, Schedules and Fees
Chapel Hill Transit (CHT) and Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) have partnered to provide a public route (identified as TTA route #420) between Chapel Hill and Hillsborough, N.C. Orange County through Orange Public Transportation (OPT) provides the mid-day Hill to Hill service. The public route serves downtown Hillsborough, Triangle SportsPlex, Chapel Hill North Shopping Center, downtown Chapel Hill, and UNC Hospital. Please note that not all stops are noted on the route maps – please contact us for additional stop information.

Complemntary Disabled Transportation for Fixed-Route Service
Orange Public Transportation provides complementary transportation services to eligible individuals with disabilities that prevent them from using the Hillsborough Circulator and Hill to Hill shuttle or from accessing those services’ stops. Orange Public Transportation’s Americans with Disabilities Act Paratransit Plan details to whom, when and where complementary transportation services are provided to eligible individuals and explains the eligibility certification process. To apply for the service, individuals must demonstrate that:
- He or she is unable to board, ride or disembark from the accessible vehicles used to provide the Hillsborough Circulator and Hill to Hill shuttle services as a result of his or her disability; or
- He or she cannot travel to or from a bus stop because his or her disability prevents it.
The service is provided from any origin and to any destination within ¾-mile of the Hillsborough Circulator and Hill to Hill shuttle route and stops.

Elderly/Disabled Medical Transportation
The Orange Bus offers Orange County elderly (60+) or disabled residents transportation from their residence to their medical care providers or shopping. Shopping trips are limited to once per week, however, medical trips are not limited. A certification form is required to qualify for this transit program.
Non-emergency door-to-door transportation to area medical facilities in Orange and Durham counties or to the closest provider can be arranged with two working days notice. Special rates are available to elderly (60+), disabled, or Medicaid eligible residents. This service is available to the general public on a seat available basis.

Senior Center Transportation
Daily transportation (Monday through Friday) is provided for seniors (60+) to Orange County Senior Centers for those on the fixed routes. There are two Orange County Senior Centers: Seymour Senior Center (2551Homestead Rd, Chapel Hill) and Central Orange Senior Center (103 Meadowlands, Hillsborough).
