If you are employed by Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, Orange County Schools or The Expedition Charter School in Hillsborough, you have a digital library account in place with the Orange County Public Library. Consider it a thank you for being part of educating our youth!
With this account, you can access all of our online resources wherever you have internet available to you.
Want to Borrow Materials?
If you would like to check out items from the library, drop by one of our locations in Carrboro or Hillsborough.
Once you’ve found what you’re looking for, head to our circulation desk and let a library staff member know that you want to use your educator account to borrow materials.
There are no fines for overdue materials, but you are responsible for lost or damaged items. Replacement card fee is $1.00.
Employees at Private, Charter or Preschools in Orange County
If you live as well as work at a private or charter school in Orange County, we will provide you with an educator card. Bring proof of residence and employment to one of our locations.
Employees at Schools Outside of Orange County
If you live in Orange County and teach in a neighboring county, you qualify for a regular full privilege library account. Drop by one of our locations with proof of residence and we’ll provide you with a library card. We do assess fines for overdue materials for these accounts.
Books and other materials may be checked out for 21 days.
The total number of items you may have checked out is 40.
You may renew all items 2 times, except items that are on a waiting list. You can renew items:
- By phone with your library card number
- In person
- Online, using your password
You may place requests on items currently on the shelf. We will notify you when items are ready for pick-up. Holds can only be checked out using the account with which the hold was placed.
There are no fines on educator accounts. Note: Our system automatically bills anyone who has an item after it's one month overdue. Simply return your materials, and we'll waive the fine. If items are damaged or lost, we will bill you to cover replacement costs.
School or Group Visits
We enjoy having groups visit the library. If you’d like to bring a group to the library for a tour, please contact Kim Dunderdale by email or phone at 919.245.2530 or fill out this form. We will be back in touch with you in 3 business days to discuss things further.
