Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)Aging Services Logo

VITA is an Orange County NC Volunteer Connect 55+ (VC 55+) volunteer program that provides FREE federal and NC state income tax preparation to eligible individuals with low-to-moderate income, regardless of age or county of residence.  


Due to the Coronavirus, we will again be offering two virtual
services: GetYourRefund.org by Code for America and MyFreeTaxes.com by United Way.
Both services will be available in February 2022 and are available 24/7.

GetYourRefund by Code for America

Orange County VITA has teamed up with GetYourRefund.org to help you file your taxes online with the help of Orange County IRS certified VITA volunteers. Providing FREE tax assistance starting February 1. 

Our helpline services will begin on February 1. For technical assistance (English/Spanish), call 919-589-4599, M-F, 9 am - 7 pm; Sat, 9 am - 12 pm. For tax assistance after you have uploaded your documents use the secure text/email features.

MyFreeTaxes by United Way

MyFreeTaxes helps people file their federal and state taxes for FREE, and it’s brought to you by United Way. Help available in English and Spanish.

You can begin preparing your return via MyFreeTaxes starting February 1. Our Helpline services will also begin on February 1, for technical or tax assistance dial 211

Foreign Students

You should use GetYourRefund.org. You will be linked with a GetYourRefund team specializing in your needs. Be sure to identify yourself as a foreign student when you create your client ID.
